Ken WoodA law graduate from Aberdeen University, Ken for many years was Managing Director of a successful international software company specialising in investment banking and spent much of his time and particular the early years of his career designing and writing computer systems. He became well known in the banking software industry. Many of the works in this book were written while passing the time on long-haul flights or languishing in hotel rooms as Ken travelled the world on business. BackgroundAlthough he has only been writing verse on and off for about the last 10 years, a large part of his professional life has centred on writing, whether marketing, technical, or functional documentation oriented towards his business. Even in these documents, Ken has always attempted to achieve a high level of 'readability', a quality often overlooked in such material. This has led to a number of articles being printed in specialist trade journals. WritingKen believes strongly - but in today's world unfashionably - that 'proper' verse should both rhyme and scan and is quite adventurous in his use of scansion to achieve poetic effect. Ken firmly believes that modern 'free' verse, which neither rhymes nor scans has been responsible for the drift of the popular audience away from poetry reading. ApproachVery much an individual, Ken always likes to take a distinctly personal approach to any problem, preferring to do things in the way that appears best to him from an assessment of the situation, rather than the way everyone else has always done it. PassionsBorn in Scotland, he now lives in the Docklands area of London and has two children from a previous marriage. Passionate about cookery, which is his primary form of relaxation (apart from writing!), Ken also enjoys reading or watching films about historical events and/or visiting battlefields. |
