On Being in Love

I could say that I'd like to spend each waking hour with you
To see you smile, to run my fingers very softly through
Your hair, to hold you tight, to stroke your back, to cuddle close,
To kiss your lips, your cheeks, your eyes, your neck, your ears, your nose
But sad to say it cannot be. There must be times apart
And then it feels as though I have a dagger in my heart.
I ache. I hurt. I agonise. I miss you dreadfully.
But thoughts of you, of caring, bring a gentle peace for me.

I could say that to hold your hand gives me a thrill divine
The magic when I stroke your skin and feel you stroking mine.
The sweet sensation flowing when I let my fingertips
Pass gently o'er your hands, your arms, your shoulders then your lips.
To walk with you, our arms around each other, holding tight
To feel your body 'neath my hand, to squeeze with all my might.
To talk with you, to hear you laugh, seems music to my ears.
And when you're sad, to sit with you and kiss away your tears

I could say that to wake beside you brings a gentle smile.
To see you sleeping, still, so peacefully, my heart beguiles.
To wake you with a kiss, to see your own eyes smile at me,
To feel you slip your arms around me brings me ecstasy
To love you then, our bodies shared, makes happiness abound.
The gentle noises that you make are such a wondrous sound.
To feel your skin, your flesh around me, hugging, close entwined
Brings thoughts of heaven fabulously rushing through my mind.

I could pen poetry. I could a verbal picture paint
Of thoughts so pure and loving they could be about a saint.
I could sing songs or ballads, airs, a sonnet here or there
To tell how much, my dearest one, for you I really care
I could write volumes, filling books, to tell you how I feel,
Of how you bring such pleasure to me, not imagined, real.
To say all this the words I need to use are very few
I sum it up, encapsulate, by saying 'I love you'
