Songs by The Wish

Poetry by other authors

The Wish is a three-piece band producing music for people who are sick of the manufactured pop-pap that is being force-fed to the public right now.  Their songs by comparison are a breath of fresh air.

The band comprises Brian Spence, Debbie McKenna and Stewart Irving and they write, record and produce their own songs, which have a timeless feel, combining musicianship, big vocals and memorable harmonies.

The lyrics below are from their debut CD which will be available soon.  Details are to be found on their own web-site

Baby Blue

Where did you go my baby blue
Nobody knows, the secret's with you
Did I betray your big blue eyes
Abandon you and let you cry?
Sixteen, didn't have a choice
When you're young you don't have a voice
No-one listens to you anyway

Where did you go my baby blue
Nobody knows the hurting in you
I'd pray to God I'd see your face
I'd pray to God for your embrace
Night and day
If I could only take your hand
If I could only make you understand
Oh my blue eyes

Where did you go my baby blue
Nobody knows the hurting in you
You closed down the shutters
You won't let me in
We both hurt again and again

Where did you go my baby blue
Nobody knows, the secret's with you
Where did you go my baby blue
My baby blue eyes

The Wedding

It was a rainy morning
Everyone was stressed
Without a warning
I tore off my dress

My Daddy rang me
He couldn't raise the fare
For his daughter's wedding
Shouldn't he be there?

I ran up the stairs
Pulled the ribbons out my hair
And put his records on
Like I always did

My Daddy's sings so sweet
My mascara down my cheeks
Was burning me
I couldn't see

The bridegroom was waiting
In his working jeans
A number 9 bus
Was the limousine

The church is waiting
And my mum not there
We've not been talking
I heard she didn't care

Don't get me wrong
I knew all along
They would let me down
Like they always did

Don't get me wrong
At least I've got this song
And a child to love
Like I've never loved
Or ever been loved before

Don't get me wrong
I knew all along
They would let me down
Like they always did

Well it's a rainy morning…..

The Spell

I was working on myself
Couldn't sleep for incantations
Every book about self-help
I found myself but lost my patience

I was working on my goals
All my dreams around the corner
Didn't need no one to hold
And everybody tried to warn you

Wouldn't anybody wonder
At this spell you put me under
You came floating on a breeze
Brought me to my knees
Like a hurricane

Diving deep into your soul
You take my breath away from me
Didn't have to take control
You set my water spirit free

Wouldn't anybody wonder
At this spell you put me under
You came floating on a breeze
Brought me to my knees
Like a hurricane

Postcards from Spain

I'm sending you this postcard
From the south of Spain
Thinking of you at six thirty in the morning
Waiting for the bus in the Manchester rain

Dark waiter strolls up to me
Say guitar man do you wanna drink?
Uno cerveza por favor
And two for my broken heart senor

The foreman of the factory
He's got a steady job and a steady wage
He'll give you babies where I gave you maybes
Will he drive you crazy with his steady ways?

To the first sweet senorita
I'll give my songs away
The ones I dedicated to you, you can keep them
Get the band to play them on your wedding day
Let me sail away

The first sweet senorita
I'll give my heart away
We'll be lazing on the beach
Where the tide is out of reach
Waving to my troubles as they sail away
Watch them sail away

PostScript

Don't set the clock to go off at 5.30
Don't wash my blue shirt, I'll just wear it dirty
Just stay in bed now there's no need to worry
Because I'm already gone

Call it intuition
Call it just a hunch
This premonition helped me beat you to the punch

Don't set the clock to go off at 5.30
Don't wash my blue shirt, I'll just wear it dirty
Go share your bed with him there's no need to worry
Because I'm already gone
